Level of riding ability: intermediate/advanced
Program description:
Hunting, equestrian clubs, stud farms and pony treks have all contributed to the prestige of Herefordshire. Many families in this county own horses which respond to the expectations of professional riders. It is thanks to these families that we are able to offer our students, family homestays which will allow students to practice their equestrian skills daily.
Equestrian homestays are located in rural areas. There will not necessarily be young people of the same age in the same host family. However, a homestay family usually accepts two youth from different countries simultaneously. The majority of program participants are French, Spanish and German.
The host families are willing to accept participants provided students are truly experienced riders. A horse will be provided to each youth. In return, each youth is required to care for the horse. He/she has been assigned for the entirety of their stay.
Students who would like to participate in this experience must complete a questionnaire detailing their riding experience. This will ensure that students meet the eligibility riding requirements, since the majority of the horses owned by host families are race horses.
